A Thought

Something that I've noticed Jackson do a lot of is clap his hands. Kevin and I have used it as his "reward" when he does something good, learns something new, etc. (I only wish this type of reward would still work when he is 5!) My favorite moments are when he will start clapping his hands when he has stacked his cups, puts his toy circle in the right hole, eats the food he knows I want him to eat, puts his sippy cup in the designated holder on his high chair, rather than throwing it. Not only are these exciting little progresses, but I also realize that he is proud of himself. I think this is what it means to "become as a little child." Many times we are so hard on ourselves. Even when we achieve a goal, we look past it and wonder why we aren't achieving all the rest. Or we compare ourselves to what everyone else is doing that we aren't. Perhaps I should speak for myself rather than saying "we." But I'm sure there are others out there who do the same things. I hope that I can take more moments to "clap" for myself when I accomplish something I'm proud of, even if it isn't the best in the world.

Thanks for that thought. I really need to do that for myself.
