Ocean City and Lancaster
The east coast beach was on our "to do" list while living out here, so a few weekends ago, we drove to Ocean City, New Jersey to experience it. We knew we could run into traffic so we got up and left by 8:30 hoping to miss it. Unfortunetely our trip still took a half hour longer than we had expected. After 10 weeks, we are still not used to the traffic here. As well as the tolls! It seems like nothing is free these days! Then we had to pay to park AND pay to walk onto the beach! It was probably the hottest weekend this summer and so we were grateful the water was so cold. The kids had a blast as you can see in the pictures.

We only stayed for a little over an hour because we were worried about traffic coming back. It wasn't bad, but we were really glad we had left early because the traffic going the other way was horrible! After paying to get onto the beach, I expected it would be really nice with bathroom facilities, showers and firepits, but didn't find any of that. I have to say, California beaches definitely win. But, it was worth the trip. Jackson has been asking to go back since we left!

Oh you guys are making me jealous! You're doing all of my favorite things! I love visiting Amish Country. In your spare time (which you probably don't have), there's a great book called "Plain and Simple" about a Manhattan woman who decided to live with the Amish. It's a true story, written by her. It's just I think 80 pages long or something, but it's very interesting.
And I agree, the NJ shore isn't that great! Those tolls in NJ are horrendous. I think I've only been to the NJ shore 4 times in my life, even though we lived so close, and I think every time was on a youth YM/YW trip. Oh well.
