Safe Neighborhood?

This morning I got up to feed Jackson. At 7:30, when I was getting ready to put him in his crib I started hearing police sirens, but thought nothing of it (we hear them a lot around here) until they pulled into our apartment complex. But then they left so I went back to bed. At about 8:00 Kev and I woke up to the sound of sirens again. They seemed to be all over the place. All of a sudden Kevin jumped out of bed because he heard the cops in our backyard! (We slept with the windows open because it is so warm right now!) They went away, but Kevin was very curious so he opened all the windows and watched outside. Out our back window there are TONS of trees. It looks like a forest. You can see the pictures below.

Okay, so a few minutes later the cops came back and they had a K-9 with them. They weren't finding what they were looking for, so they started to leave, but Kevin called down to them from our window to let them know that he had seen a tree moving. He wasn't sure if the dog was causing the tree to move, or if it was the guy they were after. The cop thanked Kevin and then all the cops headed into the "forest" with their machetes. A few more cop cars showed up and we could hear all the police yelling back and forth to each other. I caught some of it on video. You can't really see much, but you can hear them yelling.

Kev and I were a little too curious, so we decided to take a "walk to the mailbox" and see what was going on. (Don't worry, the doors were locked and Jackson slept through the whole thing.) When we got to the little "bridge" in our complex all the police cars were blocking the area and then we heard yelling and some cops were bringing the "bad guy" up over the bridge railing. The guy was really rough looking and was screaming all kinds of things. He kept saying "I was coming" as if the cops would really believe that. He was also screaming in pain because the K-9 had bit him! The guy told the cops he wanted to "speak to their captain." I brought the camera (not sure how smart that was of me) and took some pictures and some video clips. Take a look.

The cop that Kevin had given the tip to came over and thanked Kev for helping them out. He said they would have left and wouldn't have found the guy. He also said that this guy is really bad (he couldn't tell us anything the guy has done) and he came from Lynnwood where he rammed some police cars and assulted a cop. Good thing he is out of our neighborhood.

Here is the K-9 that caught the bad guy! Good job.

And that was our morning. Pretty exciting stuff. Kevin is now thinking about going into the police acadamy. I told him no way! But if any of you talk to him in the near future, make sure you address him by "Sheriff Kevin." He'll really appreciate it!

Wow, what an eventful morning! Aren't you so glad Kevin saw the tree moving?! Glad they caught the guy & he's not running around anymore.
